It’s not everyday that someone gets married at their family’s flea market.

In a small town, not far from Asheville, Katelyn and James tied the knot at his family’s long-standing flea market. What once started as a drive-in theatre built in the 1950’s, was transformed into a gathering space for the whole community.
What is Documentary Style Wedding Photography actually like?
From the moment Katie and James inquired, I knew this weekend was going to be sentimental, funky, and nostalgic in the best possible way. Both of them wanted to be fully present in the day, without any interruptions. They didn’t want the day to feel like a photoshoot, though they wanted to preserve their memories from their favorite weekend. Documenting life as it happens is our passion, therefore I knew that this was a match made in heaven.
They kicked the weekend off with a rehearsal/set up party at the market with some tender tunes and even more tender-hearted people. The bride and groom served up some nostalgic, comfort food for all their friends then ended the evening with a late-night viewing on the big screen.
The day began with sharing a communal breakfast at the cabin with their people. Followed by, a polar plunge, kayaks, champagne, diving competitions, and all the things that make their heart sing. Then, they spent the afternoon getting ready with their closest friends, giddy about what the rest of the day holds.
At the flea market, nervous flutters and tender love filled the air. It truly felt like the sweetest family reunion. There were tears, deep belly laughs, bear hugs from the ring bearers, and confetti wars with the flower girls. Truly some of the most precious moments I have ever witnessed.
Everything about this weekend was so intentional. From the many MANY thrifted plates that Katie collected, to their heirloom rings passed down by their grandparents. They even had a coloring table for the kids, and gifted their guests “wildflower seeds” as their “seeding assignments”.
